Ladies! Birth Control related to EM?

Hi there ladies!

I’m still new to discovering what triggers my EM (I am unofficially diagnosed–no help from doctors) but I’ve noticed on various websites/posts here that EM flares can be related to something else going on. I don’t have access to a GOOD doctor at the moment so I cant take tests y’all have mentioned on here, so that will have to wait. But I did notice that it’s been mentioned it can be related to medication.

My flares started a few months ago, shortly after I started taking YAZ birth control (I had never had birth control before then). I lived in AZ so I was constantly in 100° weather and loved it. But when I moved to South Dakota I randomly started having EM symptoms on my toes and on the bottom of my feet for no apparent reason.

So my question: are there any women who have seen a correlation between birth control and EM? Could the hormones in my BC be causing irregular internal temperatures and thus creating flares? Or is it more complex than this and is ultimately related to something else?

Let me know your thoughts!

Sorry I can’t help with this as I have had a hysterectomy.

Interesting question! Did you use the search feature at the top (The magnifying glass) to look for old threads?

Wow, look at this thread!

Oh man! Thank you so much for sharing this, I’ll talk to my doctor about switching immediately. I’ve had so many bizarre side effects with YAZ and now that I think about it, my flares started a month into taking it. Hopefully taking something with less hormones helps!

I was on yaz for 3 weeks and ended up hospitalized because I had 3 large pulmonary embolisms. I was 31 and a non smoker who worked out 2 hours 6 days a week, my hematologist could not find any other reason for the clots except hormonal birth control. He also said I could get off my blood thinners and a year later I was back in the hospital but thankfully they were smaller PES but I had dvts as well. I will be on blood thinners for life and the only birth control I trust is the paragaurd iud. I got em a year and a half ago and I just had the IUD. Hopefully you will be able to get medical care and figure out what is going on.

Hi, I just want to say birth control seems to affect me a lot. I had tried for ~7 months an estrogen/progesterone (a high-ish dose) one, and didn’t realize the EM was getting so bad over time. I found even the timing of when I took the pill to affect my flaring considerably. I switched to an estrogen/progesterone patch (even higher dose, since transdermal) and found that to be the worst!

When I took off the patch for the last time, I noticed a drastic improvement over 2 weeks.

Maybe how some women who struggle with acne are very sensitive to androgens (even though most often, their levels are “normal”), I’m just very sensitive to high estrogens + their blood vessel dilation effects. Not sure, just my own theory :stuck_out_tongue: and I know that’s not the whole story when it comes to the EM.
